Are you or a family member in the book?

The book contains more than 2,100 names of people, horses and stables. Famous names in history and in the horse industry populated my Father's life ... even from the moment of his birth. The doctor who delivered Dad in 1913 had treated a famous outlaw just a few years earlier.

Genealogy and history buffs... your search is over!

History buffs, researchers, and genealogists will find my book a gold mine. I spent over 10 years tracking and double-checking the names of the individuals, events, horses, family members, and dates that pack the book's fact-filled 328 pages. The book's more than 700 photographs  combines a coffee table book layout with a magazine format -- a book that readers can fold into the side of their carry-on luggage.

With every page, view from inside America's horse world the turbulent times of the first half of the 20th Century -- the Great War, the Roaring 20s, the Great Depression, World War II, and the post-war Good Times that rolled into the Fabulous 50s, and how the industry survived throughout it all.

Never before seen family pictures and stories

Names of famous horses and horsemen fill the stories of those days of flamboyant horse traders and eccentric horse show judges. The linage of some of your favorite horses of today are recorded in my book. Often, I found stories about them, who foaled them, sold them, bought them ... and for how much.  My book is about them, and about a unique man with a vision, a man who followed his youthful dreams inside the emerging Saddlebred Horse industry of early 20th century America.

Well, I finished reading your book, every word of it, and it held my interest to the end! It was a pleasure getting to know your family. Loved the photos, especially the Scheidt family portrait; your mother was so pretty. Guess I identified with Ollie and enjoyed going along with her as you took us from place to place. Your dad was born to do what he did, it seems, and was a master at it.

Art Simmons trained and showed horses for my grandfather, who had many stories of being cheated by trainers - until he found your dad.  And then Art was the only man for him!

I met your Father in the early 80's and found him to be a true gentleman. We purchased a few saddlebreds from him and traded a few over a 7 year period.  I can't wait for your book!

What a wonderful thing you have done for the Saddlehorse industy. I remember your father and know that the years of dedication to the breed came from pure passion for the horses. I loved seeing how consistency, salesmanship, marketing, campaigning, accounting and good old gut intuition played an ongoing role in his success.  Be well and know that your book truly touched all of our family.

Dear Jane -- You couldn’t have applied your writing skills to a more meaningful project. I can only imagine the amount of research involved, but to write about a true legend of a horseman like your dad preserves a slice of history that might otherwise be lost to us all.
